E101: Dealing with Manipulation and Coercion
Thursday Jun 30, 2022
Thursday Jun 30, 2022
"I guess if you're going to wear that you don't really love the Lord..."
"If you miss worship you'll go to hell!"
When you begin to go through a faith transition, it's not uncommon for those in your faith community to express concern for your changing beliefs, especially in high authority, legalistic faith communities. For the most part, those with concerns act in good faith and have a genuine concern for those who they beleive are 'departing the faith'.
But how should a Christian who's faith is changing from a legalistic paradigm to a grace centered, Christ centered paradigm manage those conversations in which manipulation and coercion are used as tools to try to bring an 'erring brother/sister' back to 'the truth'?
Kevin and Lee discuss various manipulation and coercion tactics that are commonly used, how to recognize them, and how to move away from or past those conversations that aren't helpful.

E100: Setting Boundaries during a Faith Transition
Thursday Jun 23, 2022
Thursday Jun 23, 2022
For people in high-authority, legalistic, fundamentalist religions, a faith journey away from legalism into a grace centered, Christ-centered faith can be a scary journey. Sometimes, well-meaning friends and family will confront those on such a journey to try to study, discuss, or badger Christians who are in an emotionally vulnerable state to 'win them back to the truth'.
How do we navigate these relationships? How do we manage these confrontations? How can a Christian set healthy boundaries while remaining Christ-like?
Kevin and Lee discuss their experiences and offer some advice to those on such a journey in this episode.

E99: The Canaanite Genocide, a follow-up - Dr. Grant Testut
Thursday Jun 16, 2022
Thursday Jun 16, 2022
In episode 83 (Click here if you haven't heard it yet) Dr. Grant Testut, Biblical scholar extraordinaire joined Kevin and Lee for a conversation about the Canaanite Genocide and how those events square with the concept of a loving God. That episode was very popular, and some questions were sent in from our audience asking for further discussion and clarity regarding Dr. Testut's statements about Jesus 'undoing' the conquest narratives with his ethic of love for neighbor and enemy.
In this episode, Kevin, Lee, and Dr. Testut dive back in and discuss these ideas more fully.

E96: ”Don’t Think Beyond What is Written!” (1 Corinthians 4:6)
Thursday May 26, 2022
Thursday May 26, 2022
"Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written..." 1Co 4:6
1 Corinthians 4:6 was a passage many use to shut down meaningful conversation about scriptural interpretation, including Kevin and Lee at one point in their lives. Any interpretation/application that bucks up against the 'status quo' is hand-waved away as 'thinking beyond what is written'.
In this episode, Kevin and Lee discuss the context of this passage, and how the actual contextual meaning of this passage is one that could foster better unity among Christians of all denominations if we only would take Paul's message to heart.

E95: Modesty Standards
Thursday May 19, 2022
Thursday May 19, 2022
Modesty standards are often touted by well-meaning churches in an effort to promote holiness and prevent sin, specifically 'lustful thoughts' in the minds of Christians. But are these modesty standards truly biblical? What unintended consequences arise when strict modesty standards are promoted?

What does it mean to Explore Faith?
Everyone has a belief system. We believe what we believe in large part because of what we've been taught by our parents, grandparents, pastors, and faith leaders.
But what happens when our inherited belief systems no longer serve us? What happens when our faith divides rather than unites, causes strife instead of peace, and brings angst and anxiety in place of freedom and joy?
Kevin Pendergrass and Lee Grant found themselves asking these questions and began the process of exploring their belief systems in search of something better than what had been handed down to them. In their exploration of their faith, they found a God that loves all, whose grace is far bigger than they could have ever imagined.
