Exploring Faith, Pursuing Grace

The EFPG podcast was started by Kevin Pendergrass and Dr. Lee Grant. After 105 episodes, Kevin and Lee needed a break, so they turned the reigns over to their good friend Daniel Rogers. Daniel is a co-minister at the North Broad Church in Albertville, Alabama. His website is https://danielr.net.

E116: Death Penalty and Redemptive Violence w/ Shane Claiborne
Thursday Mar 02, 2023
Thursday Mar 02, 2023
In this episode, Shane joins Daniel to speak about the death penalty and the myth of redemptive violence. When I first started my pilgrimage of faith back in 2016 or so, one of the first struggles I had was balancing my developing pro-life, restorative justice worldview with things like war, death penalty, and other issues about human well-being, food, etc. I appreciate Shane's perspective and hope you can too even if you disagree with some of his conclusions.

Thursday Feb 16, 2023
In this episode, Daniel has a conversation with church historian Dr. John Young about the American Restoration Movement, what is commonly called the Stone-Campbell Movement. When did the Church of Christ begin? What do the Churches of Christ need to do today in light of membership decline?

E114: Penal Substitutionary Atonement Theory w/ Brian Zahnd
Thursday Feb 02, 2023
Thursday Feb 02, 2023
Daniel and Brian talk about Penal Substitutionary Atonement Theory. For many Christians, this is equivalent to the gospel, but it is not the only way Christians have talked about the atonement. In fact, it is a fairly recent development, at least in its current form, when compared to the rest of church history. Thinking back to his roots in the Restoration Movement (the Stone-Campbell Movement), Daniel thought that this interview would help us better understand the distaste that Barton W. Stone had for PSA theory.

Solo E4: The Marks of a True Church
Thursday Jan 26, 2023
Thursday Jan 26, 2023
What are the marks of a true church? Following a certain pattern of worship? Having a "biblical" name? Or teaching truth? In this episode, Daniel argues that serving the poor and loving one another are far more important marks of a true church than doctrinal disputes and following a pattern of worship.

What does it mean to Explore Faith?
Everyone has a belief system. We believe what we believe in large part because of what we've been taught by our parents, grandparents, pastors, and faith leaders.
But what happens when our inherited belief systems no longer serve us? What happens when our faith divides rather than unites, causes strife instead of peace, and brings angst and anxiety in place of freedom and joy?
Kevin Pendergrass and Lee Grant found themselves asking these questions and began the process of exploring their belief systems in search of something better than what had been handed down to them. In their exploration of their faith, they found a God that loves all, whose grace is far bigger than they could have ever imagined.
