E7: Marriage, Divorce, Remarriage Part 3: Contextualizing Jesus
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Thursday Jun 11, 2020
Our previous episodes on this topic addressed the nature of Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage in the Old Testament, under the Law of Moses. We discussed the divorce certificate and valid reasons for divorce under the Hebrew Law. If you haven't already listened to those episodes, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you do so, as they provide the background context behind what is discussed in part 3.In this edition, we begin to discuss Jesus' teachings on Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage, and we begin with the cultural, literary, and historical context in which Jesus lived. This background is critical to understanding what Jesus taught, and WHY he taught what he did. This was a fun discussion, and we think you'll be well informed and edified by it.
We are excited to discuss this topic, and are planning on ending this series with an episode dedicated to answering the questions of our listeners! Send you questions to us at exploringfaithpursuinggrace@gmail.com. Thanks for listening!

Parts 1 and 2 are crucial to understanding the cultural and historical context of marriage, divorce, and remarriage, and we strongly encourage you to listen to these episodes first before moving on to future episodes in this series. These are lengthy, but in respect for the topic at hand we value thoroughness over brevity.

In part 1, Kevin and Lee begin at the beginning and discuss the role that the divorce certificate played in the ancient context, why it was encoded within God's law, and what it's particular functions were. We are excited to discuss this topic, and are planning on ending this series with an episode dedicated to answering the questions of our listeners! Q&A #1: Obedience
Saturday May 23, 2020

Hey folks! This is our first episode where we answer questions sent in from our audience. In this episode, we answer one question posed by one of our listeners: How does obedience fit into a relational approach to Christianity?Kevin and Lee answer this question and discuss what obedience looks like when one places faith in Jesus, and pursues a relationship with Jesus vs obedience under a system/checklist of rules and regulations. We look forward to answering more questions, and we're excited to dive into the topic of Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage in Episode 5, which will come next. Send us your questions, comments, and anything else you'd like to share at exploringfaithpursuinggrace@gmail.comThanks for listening!

E4: Relational Illustrations (Pursuing a relationship with Jesus)
Thursday May 21, 2020
Thursday May 21, 2020
In episode 3 we unpacked the idea of the Letter of the Law vs. the Intent of the Law, and towards the end of the episode we discussed what obedience looks like in light of that idea. In this episode, we discuss the oft-used term "Relationship with Jesus" and what that means. Does that term describe a scriptural idea? Neither of us thought so for a long while, until we learned to look at God's word as God's 'story' rather than a legal document, or 'case law'. ALSO! Episode 5 will begin a series on a topic that is very important to many; Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage. We don't know exactly how many episodes it will take to adequately cover what we want to cover, but we want to end the series with an episode devoted to answering your questions on the topic. Thursday May 14, 2020
Thursday May 14, 2020
In this episode Kevin and Lee unpack the concept of the "Spirit" of the law and the Letter of the law, and the idea that one cannot keep the "Spirit" of the law unless the letter of the law is also kept. Is ALL violation of the law sin? Can the letter of the law be violated and it NOT be sin? We discuss these ideas and more in this episode of the EFPG podcast.

What does it mean to Explore Faith?
Everyone has a belief system. We believe what we believe in large part because of what we've been taught by our parents, grandparents, pastors, and faith leaders.
But what happens when our inherited belief systems no longer serve us? What happens when our faith divides rather than unites, causes strife instead of peace, and brings angst and anxiety in place of freedom and joy?
Kevin Pendergrass and Lee Grant found themselves asking these questions and began the process of exploring their belief systems in search of something better than what had been handed down to them. In their exploration of their faith, they found a God that loves all, whose grace is far bigger than they could have ever imagined.
